Who I Am

After 45 years of making violins, building cabinets and creating custom fine furniture, I’ve made the decision to merge my love of woodworking with my other love--fishing! My goal is to create a beautiful net that feels good in the hand while on the river and looks good on the wall at home. This new vocation is Kingfisher Nets by Mark Lacy.

Over the years I have collected a large stockpile of American hardwoods, salvaged exotics and beautifully aged reclaimed heirloom wood. This wood is available to customize your net and create your own heirloom. You can select up to 5 different species of wood that can be bent (not all woods bend) and laminated to create the hoop of the net. You can also select any available hardwoods to include in the handle. You can further personalize your net with your name or initials engraved in the handle. The finish is multiple coats of a Tung oil/poly mix that creates a lustrous satin-smooth finish that will last and is not harmful in the water.

Each net is one-of -a-kind and built one at a time.

This stream landing net is 26” overall with an 10” handle, The hoop is 16” long x 9.5” wide. The net is an 11”deep, black rubber Fishpond; selected to protect the fish you will be catching and avoid the yellowing common to clear netting. As an avid fisherman myself, I use my own nets and take every lesson I can from my own adventures to improve the craftsmanship of each net.

These hardwood nets are beautiful, long-lasting, and environmentally kind. Unlike plastic or aluminum, they are a joy to hold.
